A GRA card is a grading card, not a laboratory report. Here is what it states and how to verify it.
Moissanite is usually sold with a GRA card rather than a full laboratory report. The card is smaller, cheaper and less rigorous than an IGI or GIA report — and that is worth understanding before you buy.
GRA is not a laboratory accreditation on the level of IGI or GIA. The card is issued through the moissanite trade rather than an independent gemological lab, and it does not include a plot of inclusions or a cut grade. Treat it as a specification sheet, not an appraisal.
Check that the weight and dimensions on the card match the stone in the setting, and that the certificate number matches the number on the card's record with the seller. If the dimensions are missing, ask for them — the millimetre size is what matters for the setting.
Moissanite is grown, not mined, and the supply is concentrated among a few producers. The trade grades colour and clarity in-house, and the GRA card formalises that. For a $150 stone, a full laboratory report would cost a significant fraction of the price, which is why the trade does not use one.
Every moissanite piece ships with a GRA card, and the stone is checked against the card before boxing. If you need an independent appraisal for insurance, we can recommend a local appraiser — that is a separate service and a separate document.
