Wedding Bands

Most men's bands are sold between 4 mm and 8 mm. The right width is a comfort decision first and a style decision second, and it is easier to get wrong than most people expect.
Reads as a band rather than a statement. Comfortable in heat, easy to remove, and works on smaller hands. The downside is durability: at 4 mm, a 1.6 mm thickness is fine, but a thin 1.2 mm version will distort over years of daily wear.
The most common men's width in the US. It has enough metal to feel substantial without covering the whole finger. On a size 9–11 hand it looks balanced; on a size 6–7 hand it can look wide.
Heavy in the hand and visible from across a room. It needs a thickness of at least 1.8 mm to avoid looking like a strip of metal, and it needs a half to full size up because of the surface area. Comfort-fit interiors matter more here.
A wide band covers more of the finger and feels tighter at the same nominal size. Add a quarter size at 4–5 mm, half a size at 6 mm, and a full size at 8 mm and above. If you are between sizes, take the larger one.
Platinum at 6 mm will feel heavier than 14K gold at the same width, and it wears differently — displacing rather than losing metal. 18K is softer and scratches more visibly on a wide flat surface. For a band worn daily, 14K or platinum is the practical choice.
Cut a 4 mm, 6 mm and 8 mm strip of paper and wrap it around the finger for an hour. Most people who think they want 8 mm choose 6 mm after wearing it. Men’s rings →
